Texas Installs Razor Wire Along New Mexico Border

Objectivity 4.7 | Credibility 4.7 | Relevance 4.7

Texas has begun installing razor wire and fencing at its border with New Mexico to help deter illegal immigration, according to Gov. Greg Abbott (R) and the Texas State National Guard.  Abbott has directed the state National Guard to “fortify” the border after multiple requests for federal intervention at the southern border have failed.  Since 2021, over 6 million migrants have illegally entered the U.S., not including unaccounted for “gotaways.”  Abbott posted on X: “Our barriers around El Paso forced the migrants crossing illegally to enter into New Mexico. They then entered into El Paso from there. To end that, we are building a barrier on the New Mexico border.”  The Texas National Guard said in a statement that the installation of the wire and fencing is to “prevent, deter, and interdict transnational criminal activity and illegal immigration.”
