According to internal agency data obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation, the U.S. Border Patrol documented 218,777 encounters at the U.S.-Mexico border in September, marking a record high for the agency and the highest for that month since at least 2000. This surge in illegal immigration pushed fiscal year 2023 apprehensions over 2 million, with September 2022 previously holding the record at 207,597 encounters. The Biden administration recently announced additional border wall construction in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas due to the ongoing increase in illegal immigration. Border Patrol continues its efforts to address this issue while facing challenges posed by smugglers and criminal organizations.
