Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) has been endorsed by former President Donald Trump for the next speaker of the House. Rep. Jordan, considered to be the favorite among several House Republicans to succeed Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), is the head of the House Judiciary Committee and founder of the House Freedom Caucus. Trump praised Jordan on Truth Social early Friday morning, saying the congressman “has been a STAR long before making his very successful journey to Washington, D.C….” The two leading contenders for the speaker role are Rep. Jordan and House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA). Trump had considered a run for the seat after encouragement from Rep. Troy Nehls (R-TX), but Nehls said Trump really “is in favor of getting behind Jim Jordan.” The speaker election is set for October 11.
