In a recent letter to DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, House Committee on Homeland Security Chairman Mark E. Green and Subcommittee on Border Security and Enforcement Chairman Clay Higgins expressed deep concerns about the abuse of the CBP One app by criminal cartels. The app, intended for commercial use, is now being exploited by cartels to facilitate human smuggling operations. The Chairmen highlighted that the DHS has failed to provide necessary documents and transparency on this matter, despite previous inquiries. They emphasized that cartels use virtual private networks (VPNs) to book appointments for migrants not in Mexico, contradicting the DHS’s claims that the app cuts cartel profits. This situation underscores ongoing issues at the Southwest border, with requested documents now over 90 days overdue.
