With the overwhelming surge in immigration at the southern border, the Biden Administration has announced plans to continue their policy to provide illegal immigrants with federal ID cards. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) said the cards look like drivers licenses or non-driver ID, however, stressed that the cards “will not be an official form of federal identification,” but will simply serve as a modern alternative to paper documents issued to immigrants. The federal ID cards are provided through the ICE Secure Docket Card program which started in 2022. An ICE spokesperson stated, “The ICE secure docket card concept is a pilot program that would modernize documentation provided to some noncitizens.”
