On Thursday a grand jury indicted Hunter Biden over allegations that he unlawfully owned a gun. This comes almost two months after Hunter’s plea deal fell apart. Special counsel David Weiss brought the indictment in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware. Hunter was charged with making a false statement to purchase a firearm, making a false statement related to information required to be kept by federal firearms licensed dealers, and possessing a firearm by a person who is an unlawful user of or addicted to controlled substances. It is highly unlikely a judge will hand down the maximum penalty, a total of 25 years in prison, based on charging standards. The indictment was expected as Weiss had revealed through a court filing his plans to do so by September 29 in accordance with the Speedy Trial Act.
