House Select Committee Investigating Biden Admin Support of Chinese Companies In America

Objectivity 4.8 | Credibility 4.8 | Relevance 4.7

Members of the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party are looking into whether the Biden Administration is actively supporting Chinese companies to expand their footprint in the U.S.  The committee is looking at Chinese battery maker Gotion High-Tech which announced in October 2022 that it plans to invest $2.4 billion in two large production plants and other supporting facilities in Mecosta County, Michigan.  In a letter to Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, Committee Chairman Mike Gallagher (R-WI) wrote, “It appears that Treasury — as one of the primary implementing agencies behind the Inflation Reduction Act — may be offering Gotion large government subsidies for the project.”  The letter demands that “immediate action must be taken” by the Treasury “to prevent PRC companies from exploiting U.S. taxpayer dollars.” The bylaws of Gotion’s parent company requires the company to “carry out Party activities in accordance with the Constitution of the Communist Party of China.”
