On Monday GOP presidential candidate John Anthony Castro, Texas tax attorney, threatened former President Donald Trump in a post on X, saying, “Happy Labor Day! About to unleash legal hell on @realDonaldTrump in what he thought was secure red states… but they’re in blue circuits. Zero path to 270.” The post included a photo of legal filings challenging Trump’s candidacy in eight states during the 2020 election. If disqualified from being on these state’s ballots in 2024, Trump has less chance of winning the Electoral College. Neama Rahmani, former federal prosecutor, said Castro’s efforts to disqualify Trump are a “long shot.” The litigation surrounds the 14th Amendment in which anyone “engaged in insurrection or rebellion against” is barred from running for office. Rahmani said that any ruling against Trump would be appealed and go to the Supreme Court in which the conservative majority is “unlikely” to rule against Trump.
