The Federalist reported on Monday that emails obtained by the Heritage Foundation following a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit (FOIA) challenge claims made by David Weiss, U.S. attorney for Delaware, that he had “ultimate authority” over charging decisions in the Hunter Biden probe. The emails show that Weiss, who is now the special counsel in charge of the investigation into Hunter Biden, coordinated multiple times with the DOJ when responding to inquiries from GOP legislators about the case. Contradicting Weiss’ “ultimate authority,” the heavily redacted emails show that DOJ officials offered to “take the lead” on drafting responses, not Weiss, to the committee’s inquiries. Even the June 7 letter to House Judiciary Chair Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) was written by the DOJ to “corroborate the attorney general’s Senate testimony that he had given Weiss full authority to make charging decisions in the Hunter Biden investigation.”
