The Pentagon has announced that the U.S. will be training Ukrainian pilots and crews on the F-16 beginning in October at Morris Air National Guard base in Tucson, Arizona.  The announcement came as President Joe Biden spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy while commemorating Ukraine’s Independence Day.  Zelenskyy thanked Biden, Congress and “all Americans” on social media saying, “The U.S. took the lead in rallying global support for Ukraine. This crucial leadership enabled our struggle and bent the arc of history toward good.”  A Pentagon spokesman said that the decision was made to join European allies in the training to avoid bottlenecks in bringing Ukrainian pilots up to speed.  Also on Thursday, Norway announced that it is joining Denmark and the Netherlands in donating F-16 fighters to Ukraine.  Denmark and the Netherlands have also committed to help train Ukrainian pilots.
