Since the old days of Jack Dorsey, President Donald Trump has been off the Twitter platform, now X, after being banned following the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot controversy. After Elon Musk acquired Twitter, he reinstated the former President in November of 2022. However, President Trump did not use the platform until August 24, 2023, returning to X with his first post being a picture of his iconic mugshot. On Thursday, August 24, Trump was arrested, booked, fingerprinted and photographed for his mugshot in Atlanta, Georgia, at the Fulton County Jail. Trump also posted the mugshot on his platform, Truth Social. Accompanying the mugshot, Trump’s post was captioned: “ELECTION INTERFERENCE, NEVER SURRENDER!” with a link to his website www.donaldjtrump.com. Elon Musk retweeted Trump’s post on X, saying, “Next-level.”
