Canadian officials have ordered the residents of Yellowknife and the surrounding areas to evacuate as one of the hundreds of active wildfires in the territories approaches the city. Thousands have fled either by plane or by vehicle as the official deadline to evacuate is noon Friday.  The fire was last reported 10 miles north of Yellowknife and could reach the city over the weekend. “We’re all tired of the word unprecedented, yet there is no other way to describe this situation in the Northwest Territories,” Premier Caroline Cochrane posted on social media.  Canada has seen a record number of fires this season, with over 5,700 fires so far scorching more than 53,000 square miles.  As of Thursday night, Canada still has over 1,000 active fires with more than half of them out of control.
