In the 2020 election interference case against former President Donald Trump, special counsel Jack Smith has requested a protective order restricting information that Trump and his allies can share about the case.  Trump attorney John Lauro said, “The press and the American people in a campaign season have a right to know what the evidence is in this case provided that this evidence is not protected otherwise. So, we’re going to oppose it.” Trump’s legal team filed a motion requesting more time to review Smith’s order, however, Judge Chutkan  denied that request and gave Trump’s team until Monday, August 7 by 5pm to respond.  Following the denial, the former president demanded Judge Chutkan be recused from the case and that the trial be moved from D.C., saying, “There is no way I can get a fair trial with the judge ‘assigned’ to the ridiculous freedom of speech/fair elections case.”
