Biden’s Green Agenda: Billions in Subsidies, Workers’ Wages Halved

Objectivity 4.1 | Credibility 4.8 | Relevance 4.8

According to a report from the United Auto Workers (UAW), President Joe Biden’s green agenda for the auto industry will result in billions of dollars being transferred from American workers to multinational corporations. Under the Inflation Reduction Act, automakers producing electric vehicles (EVs) and batteries could receive $220 billion in taxpayer-funded subsidies by 2031, provided their EVs and batteries are primarily sourced and manufactured in the United States, Canada, or Mexico. The report focuses on General Motors’ (GM) EV battery plant in Ohio, where workers’ wages have been halved compared to the previous vehicle assembly plant. The UAW fears that the subsidies will benefit corporations while harming workers and the organization has withheld an endorsement for Biden until commitments to protect auto workers’ wages are fulfilled.
