Alexander Vindman, former National Security Council Director for European Affairs and prominent figure in the first impeachment of President Trump, former Russia ambassador Michael McFaul, former Rep. Tom Malinowski (D-NJ), and other foreign policy “experts” have written in an op-ed on Politico that “Ukraine Needs a Roadmap to NATO Membership ASAP.”  The article says that the upcoming NATO summit in Vilnius, Lithuania beginning July 11 should “launch a roadmap that will lead clearly to Ukraine’s membership in NATO at the earliest achievable date.”  Stephen Wertheim, a senior fellow at the Carnegie Endowment noted, “A number of signatories also signed an open letter last year calling for a no-fly zone over Ukraine. This is no coincidence: admitting Ukraine into NATO, like imposing a no-fly zone, would run a significant risk of bringing about a direct NATO-Russia war.” Others noted that many of the signatories have received money from Ukraine or receive funding from military contractors.
