Driving Privilege Cards for Undocumented Immigrants Causes Outrage

Objectivity 3.2 | Credibility 4.8 | Relevance 4.8

The Supreme Court ruled against Texas and Louisiana in their lawsuit against the Biden administration’s deportation guidelines, concluding that the states did not have standing to bring the suit.  This measure will allow for fewer deportations of illegal immigrants unless they have committed serious crimes.  Amidst the immigration crisis, Rhode Island is set to begin issuing driving privilege cards to undocumented residents on July 3, granting them driving privileges normally reserved for citizens. These cards will override the state’s requirement of a Social Security number for a driver’s license. While some argue that it promotes equality, others believe it undermines American sovereignty and the rule of law. Also, competing identification systems among states may lead to future legal battles.
