Obama Wants ‘Digital Fingerprints’ Ahead of Next Election Cycle to Fight the Spread of ‘Misinformation’

Objectivity 4.0 | Credibility 4.8 | Relevance 4.6

Former President Barack Obama has a new buzzword — “digital fingerprints” — which he believes is needed to clearly trace the origin of digital information such as photos an videos and fight the spread of deepfakes. Obama said in an interview on David Axelrod’s CNN podcast, “That technology’s here now. So, most immediately we’re going to have all the problems we had with misinformation before, [but] this next election cycle will be worse.”  Technology to combat “misinformation” is being developed by a coalition of tech and media companies led by Microsoft and Adobe.  While he was president, Obama helped fuel the media narrative of “misinformation” which was used to suppress conservative content online.
