On the heels of controversy over Chick-fil-A’s diversity, equity, and inclusion policies, ‘The Chosen’ has received criticism for allowing a worker to have an LGBTQ+ flag on his equipment. The flag was seen in a short promotional video and sparked a call to boycott the series. However, series creator and producer Dallas Jenkins has said that ‘The Chosen’ is not a ministry or church and that they work with people of different faiths and religions to run the show. Jenkins stressed that the content of the production is Christocentric and based on the word of God. Even so, Jon Root, a blogger for the conservative Christian student organization Turning Point USA, called for a boycott of the series.
