Russian Security Council deputy chair Dmitry Medvedev said on Twitter that U.K. politicians are a “legitimate military target” after U.K. Foreign Secretary James Cleverly said that Ukraine had a legitimate right to conduct attacks inside Russia’s border. Moscow has recently been attacked by drones which caused damage to wealthy neighborhoods. Cleverly said that Ukraine attacking inside Russian borders undermines Russia’s ability to continue the war inside Ukraine. Medvedev also tweeted, “the goofy officials of the U.K., our eternal enemy, should remember that within the framework of the universally accepted international law which regulates modern warfare, including the Hague and Geneva Conventions with their additional protocols, their state can also be qualified as being at war.” The Biden administration disagrees with the U.K.’s stance on the matter with White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre saying, “we do not support attacks inside of Russia. That’s it. Period.”
