Objectivity 4.8 | Credibility 4.8 | Relevance 4.9

World Health Organization head Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus is urging member nations to carry out necessary reforms to prepare for the next pandemic which he said will surely “come knocking.”  “If we do not make the changes that must be made, then who will? And if we do not make them now, then when?” he said. Tedros also said, “A commitment from this generation (to a pandemic accord) is important, because it is this generation that experienced how awful a small virus could be.”  The 194 members states of the WHO are working on drafting a pandemic treaty expected to be adopted next year. During the annual 10-day meeting in Geneva, the body also approved a 2024-2025 budget of $6.83 billion which includes a mandatory 20% increase in fees for member states. Fox News reports that no objections to the budget were raised but instead was met with “lengthy applause.”
