Overnight Russia launched another missile attack on Ukraine employing 25 Kalibr cruise missiles; some were launched from ships in the Black Sea and others by aircraft according to the Ukrainian air force. All but 2 of the missiles were reported destroyed with no damage or injuries. Meanwhile, 21 cities in Russia have canceled Victory Day celebrations which commemorates Nazi Germany’s surrender marking the end of World War II on this day in 1945. It is usually celebrated with military parades and Immortal Regiment processions in which those with family members who served or died in World War II carry portraits of their loved ones through the streets. Officials blamed unspecified “security concerns” for the cancelations but some have speculated that people would bring pictures of loved ones lost in Ukraine war which could highlight what some say are Russia’s devastating losses.
