Erdogan Becomes Sick On Live TV, Suspends Reelection Campaign

Objectivity 4.8 | Credibility 4.8 | Relevance 4.7

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has suspended his reelection campaign after falling ill during a live television interview.  After 20 minutes, Erdogan briefly returned to say he had a “serious stomach flu.” Turkey’s Health minister Fahrettin Koca said that Erdogan was diagnosed with “infectious gastroenteritis” and that he would be resuming his normal schedule as soon as possible.  Erdogan has missed multiple campaign appearances over the past few days and even the inauguration of Turkey’s first nuclear power station at Akkuyu on the Mediterranean coast.  Erdogan attended online along with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Erdogan’s main opponent Kemal Kilicdaroglu publicly wished Erdogan a speedy recovery. The latest polls show Kilicgaroglu is close enough to Erdogan to force a run-off election after the May 14 elections which would take place two weeks later.
