Analysis of the leaked Pentagon classified documents by Financial Times shows that Wagner Group, Russian mercenary firm, tried to obtain weapons from China but failed. According to the leaked documents, Wagner “sought munitions and equipment” from China in “early 2023,” but no weapons were sent, “not even for testing, and had no contact with [Wagner] regarding weapons deliveries.” During this time period, U.S. officials alleged that China was considering sending weapons to Russia. Despite the recent controversial trip by Chinese President Xi to Moscow, Chinese officials continue to deny that they have provided lethal aid to Russia.
