Northern Ireland: IRA Easter Attack Plot ‘Very Likely’ Ahead of Biden Visit

Just days before U.S. President Joe Biden and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak are due to visit, Northern Ireland police have “very strong” intelligence of an Easter attack plot by the IRA.  This coming week marks the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement.  Northern Ireland’s official threat level increased from ‘substantial’ to ‘severe.’  The Good Friday Agreement, regarded as a success which largely ended a years-long conflict between home nation of Northern Ireland and radicalized republicans, has been rejected by a small number of so-called Dissident Republicans who continue to fight.  The Times reports the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) believes intelligence points to an imminent threat in the coming days from a dissident group to launch “gun attacks and bomb attacks.”
