Disney made changes to the lyrics of two songs in the upcoming live-action remake of “The Little Mermaid.” Composer Alan Menken confirmed that the lyrics for “Kiss the Girl” and “Poor Unfortunate Souls” have been altered, with the former being changed to clarify that Prince Eric would not “force himself” on Ariel. Menken also stated that “Poor Unfortunate Souls” has undergone revisions to prevent young girls from feeling that they “shouldn’t speak out of turn.” The composer also revealed that he worked with Lin-Manuel Miranda to create new songs for the film, which premieres in theaters on May 26.
