The European Union’s foreign policy chief Josep Borrell, speaking ahead of EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and French President Emmanuel Macron’s trip to Beijing, was highly critical of China’s support for Russia as its war with Ukraine continues. “There is a clear expectation from a permanent member of the (U.N.) Security Council to stand up in defense of international rules-based order and China as a moral duty to contribute to a fair peace,” Borrel said. “There cannot be siding with the aggressor.” Borrel said that China’s support of Russia is a “a blatant violation†of China’s obligations to the U.N. Von der Leyen and Macron are traveling to Beijing to discuss trade and the war in Ukraine.
