California Assemblyman Bill Essayli (R) has proposed a bill that would require public school teachers to inform parents if their child starts to publicly identify as a transgender. According to the new bill, teachers would be required to inform the student’s parents about their child’s new identification within three days of their public change. Essayli commented about the proposed bill stating, “Parents are not spectators of their kids. They’re parents, and responsible for their well-being.” The Assemblyman drafted the bill in hopes of restoring the relationship between schools and parents.
