Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis Monday signed a bill that ends Disney World’s self-governing status and returns governing of the district back to the state. The bill allows the state to have control over Reedy Creek Improvement District, formerly Disney’s self-governing, special tax exempt district, and enables DeSantis to create a governing board and force Disney to pay $700 million in debts and taxes. “Disney loses self-governing status, the State of Florida is the new sheriff in town,” DeSantis announced at a press briefing. “Buckle up – there’s a lot to get done.”
