The recent success of movies targeting underserved audiences has proven to be a lucrative strategy at the box office. Jesus Revolution, a Lionsgate film whose target demographic is faith-based viewers, appealed to general audiences as well. Jesus Revolution’s debut was projected to make only around $7 million, but it brought in nearly $15.5 million in its three-day domestic opening, finishing third at the weekend’s box office. Also, the film has a remarkable 99% audience rating on the review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes.
