Israel Deploys Troops To West Bank After Settler Violence

Objectivity 4.8 | Credibility 4.8 | Relevance 4.8

Israel has deployed hundreds of troops to the West Bank after Israeli settlers rioted in a Palestinian area burning vehicles and even homes.  The riots broke out after a Palestinian gunman killed two Israeli brothers, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a statement appealing for calm and Defense Minister Yoav Galant said that Israel “cannot allow a situation in which citizens take the law into their hands.”  In contrast, an MP from Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir’s party said the settlers violent response would help deter future attacks. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas called the settlers’ actions “terrorist acts carried out by settlers under the protection of the occupation forces.”
