GOP Pushes Back Against Biden Ceding Pandemic Authority To WHO

Objectivity 4.8 | Credibility 4.8 | Relevance 4.9

Seventeen GOP Senators have introduced a bill which would force the Biden Administration to define any accord with the World Health Organization (WHO) as a treaty and therefore requires two-thirds senate approval. The bill comes as Biden Administration is seemingly prepared to sign an accord granting the WHO legal authority over the U.S. and the other 193 member countries if a pandemic is declared.  The WHO would be “the directing and coordinating authority” for lockdowns, treatments, medical supply chains, surveillance, and even deciding what is “disinformation and false news.”  Francis Boyle, professor of international law at Illinois University, however, said that the wording of the accord is specifically tailored to bypass the need for Senate approval.
