According to reports, Fox News’ Tucker Carlson has been given access to 41,000 hours of surveillance footage from the January 6, 2021 Capitol protests by House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.  Axios reported that Carlson’s producers were on Capital Hill last week reviewing the footage and excerpts of the videos will begin airing next week.  Carlson said, “[T]here was never any legitimate reason for this footage to remain secret.” In August some House Republicans demanded that the U.S. Capitol Police release the footage for the fair trials of the over 700 people who were arrested in connection to the protests.  Twenty-three lawmakers penned a letter to Capitol Police Board Chairman William J. Walker saying the release of the footage “is absolutely essential to proper governance and truth.”
