A train containing hazardous materials on Thursday derailed in Van Buren Township outside Detroit with no injuries, according to local authorities. Residents of the town received a warning alert to avoid the area near the derailment. The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) said in a statement that the derailment poses no threat to the public. “EGLE is aware of the train derailment in Van Buren Township, Wayne County, where initial reports indicate no threat to the public from the derailment. EGLE personnel are on their way to the scene to assist in assessing the situation” the statement said.
