After being buried under the rubble for eight days, nine survivors were rescued following the devastation of Turkey’s deadliest earthquake in the last millennium. Rescuers have agreed that there may be more people alive, but U.N. authorities are concluding the rescue stage of the crisis response is to focus on providing food, shelter and medical aid to the survivors. “Some 26 million people across both countries need humanitarian assistance,” the World Health Organization’s director for Europe, Hans Henri P. Kluge said.
