When “Top Gun: Maverick” debuted in theaters, it was genuinely loved by audience members and critics alike. The sequel to the 1986 movie “Top Gun” grossed more in the U.S. in 2022 than any other film and second worldwide. Movie review site Rotten Tomatoes named it the Best Film of 2022. The movie received a total of six Oscars and for star Tom Cruise it was his first film to reach such an honor. Cruise tweeted after its debut, “To all the films in release, to all the studios, and to all the exhibitors: congratulations. To the audience: thank you for venturing out and allowing us to entertain you.”
