Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt has called for the Oklahoma legislature to pass a bill banning all gender transition surgeries for minors. During his 2023 State of the State Address, Stitt said, “We must protect our most vulnerable – our children…we shouldn’t allow a minor to get a permanent gender altering surgery in Oklahoma.” Stitt’s words received a standing ovation. Stitt, who was first elected governor in 2018 and recently won reelection, also signed a bill last April banning non-binary gender designations on birth certificates as well as a law prohibiting transgender girls from playing on female sports teams.
