Norway-based Iran Human Rights (IHR) group is reporting that as the protests in Iran have continued over the past 5 months, they have noticed a disturbing trend of Iranian security forces shooting at the face and eyes of protestors, especially young women. The group claims that hundreds of protestors have suffered blindness after being targeted, including a 6-year old girl, and is calling upon the United Nations Human Rights Council to investigate. The protests began last September after the death of Mahsa Amini who died after being arrested by Iran’s morality police. Since then almost 20,000 people have been arrested and over 527 people killed by Iranian police according to IHR. At least four people have been executed for taking part in the protests.
