Twitter Files: Single Source For Russian Bot Allegations

Objectivity 4.6 | Credibility 4.8 | Relevance 4.8

The latest Twitter Files drop from Matt Taibbi explores details of a single source that was responsible for aiding the media and the Democrats in spreading the false narrative of Russian bot activity. The source, dubbed ‘Hamilton 68,’ was created by former FBI agent and MSNBC contributor Clint Watts and managed by “neoliberal think tank” Alliance for Securing Democracy (ASD) which is headed by Clinton and Obama officials.  Emails confirm that Twitter officials recognized the account as “neither strongly Russian nor strongly bots” but were unwilling to denounce ASD publicly.  Matt Taibbi said “‘Hamilton 68’ was used as a source to assert Russian influence in an astonishing array of news stories…These stories raised fears in the population, and most insidious of all, were used to smear people…by describing critics as Russian-aligned.”
