The worst outbreak of avian flu on record is continuing for a second year after forcing the destruction of nearly 58 million birds according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. This particular outbreak of avian flu has stumped experts because it appears to be more common among wild birds but spreading more rapidly to domestic flocks. More than 40 million egg-laying chickens have been culled causing the price of eggs to skyrocket. NBC News reported the average price of a dozen eggs went from $1.72 in November 2021 to $3.59 in November 2022.
