Eighteen House Republicans introduced a resolution calling for the United States to formally recognize Taiwan as a sovereign, independent country and abandon “One China Policy.” “Taiwan is a free, democratic, and independent country – one that has never been under the control of the People’s Republic of China or part of its territory. It’s time for U.S. policy to reflect this reality and end the outdated ‘One China Policy,'” said Representative Tom Tiffany (R-Wis.) on Twitter, who led the resolution.
