CNN’s Medical Analyst Dr. Leana Wen admitted COVID deaths were being overcounted in a Washington Post opinion article titled, “We are overcounting COVID deaths and hospitalizations. That’s a problem.” In an interview with CNN, Dr. Wen said COVID deaths should be classified into categories depending on the influence the virus had on an individual’s death. The medical analyst wrote, “Understanding this distinction is crucial to putting the continuing toll of the coronavirus into perspective. Determining how likely it is an infection will result in hospitalization or death helps people weigh their own risk.”
