Russia and Belarus have begun a joint military exercise which will last until February giving rise to concerns that Belarus will actively join Russia in its war with Ukraine. Last February Russia launched its attack on Ukraine from Belarus. The joint exercise consists of both air and army units and will employ the use of all the military airfields in Belarus. While Minsk says that the drills are defensive in nature, Kyiv has warned repeatedly in the past that Belarus could get involved in the war. Putin’s government denies that they have pressured Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko to attack Ukraine.
