Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has responded to critics of the proposed judicial reforms introduced by his government. The reforms, written by Justice Minister Yoav Levin, are intended to give the Knesset more control over the judiciary, including Israel’s version of the Supreme Court. One proposal would even allow the Knesset to overturn a High Court ruling. Tens of thousands of protestors gathered in Tel Aviv claiming that the proposals are a threat to Israel’s democracy. Netanyahu said, “Two months ago…millions of people took to the streets to vote in the elections. One of the main issues they voted for is the reform in the judicial system.”
