British Government Bans Transgender Law in Scotland

Objectivity 4.8 | Credibility 4.9 | Relevance 4.8

The UK government said it will block a new bill introduced that will make it easier for Scottish citizens to lawfully change their gender.  Secretary of State for Scotland Alister Jack expressed dissent due to legal conflicts that could impact the “Great Britain-wide equities legislation.”  Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said, “The Scottish Government will defend the legislation and stand up for Scotland’s Parliament.”    Since the Scottish government and parliament were reestablished a quarter century ago, this is the first time the U.K. government has blocked a Scottish law.
