The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is considering banning gas stoves based on reports that the release of carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide and other harmful gases can cause respiratory, cardiovascular health issues and even cancer. Federal lawmakers contacted the agency about the issue in December, requesting the agency require warning labels and creating performance standards. Approximately 35% of U.S. homes have gas stoves.
