Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said that he may meet with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad as part of a peace process which began last month in Moscow when the defense ministers from the three countries held a surprise meeting. Erdogan said, “We have launched a process as Russia-Turkey-Syria. We will bring our foreign ministers together and then, depending on developments, we will come together as leaders.” Turkey has backed Syrians rebels while Russia has backed Assad in a civil war which has lasted over a decade and killed hundreds of thousands and displaced millions of people.
