After students return from Christmas break in the Boston Public Schools (BPS), they will be encouraged to wear masks due to the uptick in pediatric hospitalizations of RSV, COVID, and flu cases. BPS president Mary Skipper issued a letter to students and staff stating this is “not a mandate” and “no one will be disciplined or sent home if they refuse to wear a mask.” However, staff will be “asked and expected to begin masking” for a period of 8 days upon returning.
