Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani has spoken with incoming Iranian Ambassador to Italy Mohammad Reza Saburi and expressed Italy’s “indignation and worry” of the way Iran has been suppressing the antigovernmental protests which have shaken the country over the past three months. Human Rights Activists in Iran estimate that over 500 protestors have been killed and almost 20,000 have been arrested.  Iranian courts have handed out multiple death sentences and to date have carried out at least two of them. Italy and other EU countries have sanctioned several Iranian officials with travel bans and even some by freezing assets.
