Bolivians Protest Arrest Of Right-Wing Opposition Leader

Objectivity 4.8 | Credibility 4.8 | Relevance 4.6

Bolivians in the Santa Cruz region have taken to the streets protesting the arrest of regional governor and national opposition leader Luis Fernando Camacho. Camacho is facing charges for encouraging a strike against the government of President Luis Arce in November calling for a national census which would likely shift regional power to the Santa Cruz region. Camacho is also facing charges for what the current administration calls a “coup attempt” in 2019 when he led demonstrations against then President Evo Morales which led to his resignation. Camacho’s supporters have called the arrest “an absolutely irregular police operation.”
