A video from May in which Department of Health and Human Services Assistant Secretary Rachel Levine calls for Big Tech to censor what Levine called “misinformation” about “gender-affirming care” for children has gained new attention. In the video Levine calls “for our tech companies to create a healthier, cleaner information environment” amidst “an onslaught of anti-LGBTQI+ actions at the state levels.” Many Twitter users have expressed outrage that a government official was openly advocating censorship. The American Conservative senior editor Rod Dreher tweeted, “When fascism comes to America, it will be under the guises of Health and Safety.” Claremont Institute Lincoln fellow Terry Schilling said, “Even the communists didn’t promote evil like this. They at least lied to make themselves look more competent.”
